WHITEVILLE – Sophmore Patience Ward racked up a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead East Bladen to a 52-44 girls basketball victory Tuesday night over Whiteville in Three Rivers Conference action.

Junior Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson filled up the stat sheet for the Lady Eagles with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Junior Erica McKoy dished out 8 assists, scored 6 points and added 5 rebounds and 2 steals.

Senior Shardajah Brown grabbed 7 rebounds and scored 6 points. Ward also collected 4 steals to go with her double-double. Sophmore Lorna Mendell chipped in with 4 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks and 3 steals.

The Lady Eagles trailed 14-9 after one quarter, but rallied with a 12-9 second quarter surge to close the gap to 23-21 at halftime. East Bladen outscored the Lady Wolfpack 13-8 to take a 34-31 lead after three quarters. The visitors pulled away with an 18-13 burst in the fourth quarter.

Freshman I’Reonna Johnson topped the Whiteville scoring with 12 points. Junior Marquasia Smith followed with 9 points, and senior Nsaia Rogers finished with 8 points.

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles improved to 7-1 in the Three Rivers and 11-1 overall. East Bladen will visit Wallace-Rose Hill Wednesday night for a non-conference game.
