DUNN – Sophmore Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson poured in 16 of her game-high 26 points in the final period to lead East Bladen’s Lady Eagles to a 53-47 Four County Conference girls basketball victory over Midway Friday night.

The final quarter began with the two teams tied 33-33. Moore-Peterson lit up the scoreboard with 6 baskets and sank 4 of 5 free throws in the period. Junior Shardajah Brown threw in a pair of baskets in the quarter as East outscored the Lady Raiders 20-14 to take the victory.

Brown racked up 17 points and 6 rebounds, and freshman Patience Ward added 6 points and 3 steals. Senior Yolanda Coston collected 7 rebounds and a team high 6 steals. Sophmore Ashley Hardin also grabbed 7 rebounds. Senior Emily Scott contributed 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks.

Junior guard Leah Williams blistered the nets with a pair of 3-point shots and 12 first quarter points as Midway jumped out to a 17-9 lead. Brown drained a 3-point shot and another basket for East, and Scott and Moore-Peterson added buckets.

The East Bladen defense clamped down in the second quarter and held Midway to only 4 points as the Lady Eagles trimmed the margin to 21-18. Brown nailed a 3-pointer and a 2-point shot in the period, and Ward and Moore-Peterson pumped in baskets.

Moore-Peterson connected for 2 baskets and 2 free throws in the third quarter as the Lady Eagles tied the game. Ward netted a pair of baskets, Brown buried a 3-point shot, and Justyna Gargala delivered a basket.

Williams topped the Midway scoring with 23 points, and teammate J. J. Sankey tallied 16 points.

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles improved to 6-1 in league play and 14-3 overall. East Bladen will travel to Clinton Wednesday night.
