ROCKY POINT – Unbeaten East Bladen raced to leads of 16-2, 33-7 and 50-7 en route to their 6th straight win – 55-11 Wednesday night over Heide Trask in non-conference girls’ basketball action.

Sophomore Laila Smith led the Lady Eagle attack with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 steals. Junior Zoe Smith tossed in 13 points and had 3 rebounds. Freshman Ariel Cromartie flipped in 6 points and had 2 steals. Sophomore Iveonna “NeNe” Ward threw in 5 points and had 4 steals.

Laila Smith sparked East Bladen to an early 16-2 lead with 3 baskets and a free throw, and Zoe Smith drilled in a 3-point shot and another basket. Zoe Smith and freshman Cabria Baldwin added a basket each.

The East Bladen onslaught continued in the 2nd period as Laila Smith filled up the rims with 4 baskets and a free throw. Zoe Smith buried a 3-point shot, Baldwin hit a free throw and junior Maegan Burney and freshman Niyha Wooten dropped in a basket each to push the halftime lead to 33-7.

Zoe Smith nailed a pair of 3-point shots and another basket in the 3rd quarter. Laila Smith powered in a pair of hoops, Baldwin made a free throw, and Cromartie and Burney netted baskets to widen the gap to 50-7. Cromartie popped in a pair of baskets in the final quarter, and Wooten sank a free throw.

Wooten pulled down a team-high 7 rebounds. Baldwin finished with 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Senior Brianna Phillips captured 3 rebounds, and senior AnnaGrey Heustess blocked 2 shots and had 2 steals.

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles, now 6-0, will travel Whiteville Friday night.
