TEACHEY – Junior Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson overcame Wallace-Rose Hill’s gimmick defense and fired in 23 points to rally East Bladen to a 55-46 non-conference girls basketball victory Wednesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs employed a box-and-one defense with the ‘one’ chasing Moore-Peterson. “Ja’Tyra took over the game in the second half and hit five 10-foot jumpers while heavily defended,” said East Bladen Coach Patty Evers.

East Bladen had grabbed a 10-8 first quarter lead, but Wallace pulled even 23-23 at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs inched ahead 36-33 at the third quarter break, before the Lady Eagles rode a 20-10 run to the win.

“We played from behind most of the night!” said Coach Evers. “Erica McKoy knocked down 9 of 11 shots from the free throw line to seal the game! Anna Kate White made both of her baskets when we were trailing by 3 points in two separate possessions.”

McKoy racked up 17 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 6 assists for East Bladen. Sophmore teammate Patience Ward posted a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds. Ward was also credited with 4 steals.

Moore-Peterson and senior Shardajah Brown pulled down 6 rebounds each for the Lady Eagles, and sophmore Lorna Mendell corralled 5 rebounds.

The Lady Eagles improved to 12-1 overall and will travel to South Columbus Friday night for a Three Rivers Conference game.

EAST BLADEN (55) – Katie Evans, Erica McKoy 17, Kaley Smith, Izzy Smith, Shardajah Brown, Anna Kate White 4, Patience Ward 11, Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson 23, Lorna Mendell.
