East junior Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson popped in a pair of baskets and drilled a 3-point basket in the second quarter. Ward tossed in 2 more baskets and hit a pair of free throws as the Lady Eagle lead grew to 28-11 at halftime.

Ward opened the third quarter with a pair of baskets, and junior Erica McKoy made a free throw. Freshman Lorna Mendell banked in a turn-around, and junior Ashley Hardin drained a pair of 3-point shots. Moore-Peterson drove for a lay-up and a 43-22 East lead at the quarter break.

Ward drove for 2 more baskets in the final quarter. Junior Anna Kate White canned a 15-footer, senior Shardajah Brown netted a lay-up and Moore-Peterson buried a 3-point shot.

Moore-Peterson finished with 15 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds. “Ja’Tyra and Ashley were more patient with their shot in the second half,” noted Coach Evers. Hardin totaled 6 points, and McKoy contributed 4 steals.

Mendell pulled down 7 rebounds, blocked 2 shots and scored 4 points. “I thought Lorna did a super job,” continued Coach Evers. “It’s not how many she scored, but how hard she played.”

“Our defense is getting better,” concluded Evers. “We do need to rebound better on the defensive boards.”

Haley Rising and Nadelyn McClure scored 9 points each to lead South Columbus.

The Lady Eagles improved to 2-0 in league play and 4-0 overall and will travel to Red Springs Friday night.
