ELIZABETHTOWN- Senior Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson fired in 17 points Tuesday night to lead East Bladen to a 61-28 victory over West Brunswick in the non-conference girls basketball season opener for both teams.
Moore-Peterson drained a pair of 3-point shots and 2 free throws, and senior Anna Kate White bombed in a pair of 3-balls as the Lady Eagles raced to a 20-10 first quarter lead. Junior Patience Ward pumped in a trio of baskets in the period.
Senior Erica McKoy nailed a 3-point shot, and senior Ashley Hardin and sophmore Katie Evans netted baskets as the East lead grew to 28-14 at halftime.
Moore-Peterson knocked down a pair of baskets and three free throws in the third quarter, and freshman Alexus Mitchell threw in a 3-point shot, a basket and 2 free throws as the Lady Eagles widened the gap to 47-20 at the quarter break.
Ward pumped in a trio of baskets in the final quarter, and McKoy sank a basket and two free throws. Ward finished with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
McKoy filled up the stat sheet with 7 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Mitchell totaled 7 points and 2 steals. Moore-Peterson collected 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
Junior Lorna Mendell pulled down 9 rebounds to go with 5 points, 2 blocks and 2 steals. Senior Ashley Hardin contributed 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists. White finished with 6 points, and sophmore Katie Evans tallied 5 points and had 2 steals.
Autumn Bland led the West Brunswick scoring with 13 points.
