LAKE WACCAMAW – A 33-9 second-half blitz carried East Bladen to a 63-26 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball victory over East Columbus Friday night.
Senior Erica McKoy pumped in 2 baskets, and senior Ashley Hardin drilled in a 3-point shot in the opening quarter. Junior Lorna Mendell and freshman Alexus Mitchell threw in baskets as the Lady Eagles built a 14-9 lead.
McKoy knocked down a 3-point shot and two more baskets in the second quarter, and junior Patience Ward threw in 2 baskets. Senior Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson nailed a 3-point shot as the East Bladen lead grew to 30-17 at halftime.
Moore-Peterson drilled in a 3-point shot, another basket and 3 free throws in the third period to lead a 19-3 Lady Eagle run. Ward dropped in 2 more baskets, and McKoy tossed in a basket and a free throw as the lead grew to 49-20.
Mitchell popped in 2 baskets and 2 free throws in the final quarter, and Moore-Peterson delivered a basket and 2 free throws. Ward and freshman Mya McDonald added a basket each.
Moore-Peterson led the Lady Eagles with 15 points, and McKoy rang up 14 points. Ward finished with 11 points, and Mitchell totaled 8 points. McDonald contributed 7 points.
“We had a slow start, but a good defensive effort,” said Lady Eagle Coach Patty Evers. “High energy in the second half gave us a good team win.”
East Bladen remained atop the Three Rivers with a 7-0 record and a 12-1 overall mark. The Lady Eagles will host South Robeson Tuesday.
