ELIZABETHTOWN — Maegan Burney and Lala Smith each scored 19 points as East Bladen breezed to a 64-23 non-conference girls’ basketball game victory Tuesday against South Columbus.

The unbeaten Eagles (5-0) scored the first 10 points — a pair of opening buckets from NeNe Ward followed by a basket from Smith and two from Burney — and led 17-1 with less than three minutes remaining in the first quarter.

East Bladen opened a 13-2 scoring spree in the second quarter which featured 3-pointers from Ward and Burney for a 33-6 lead. The Eagles led 37-9 at half and 50-18 at the end of the third quarter.

Ward had 11 points and eight steals. Smith had nine rebounds and six steals. Burney had five steals. Anna Grey Heustess collected six rebounds. Ariel Cromartie netted six points.

East Bladen is scheduled to play at Heide Trask on Wednesday.
