ELIZABETHTOWN – Junior Maegan Burney fired in 14 points to lead four East Bladen players in double figures as the Lady Eagles rolled to a 65-39 Southeastern Athletic Conference girls basketball victory over Midway.

Burney also grabbed 5 rebounds and blocked 2 shots. Senior teammate Maya McDonald filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, 6 steals, 3 assists and 4 rebounds. Senior Alexus Mitchell added 10 points, a team-high 7 steals, 3 rebounds and 3 steals.

Freshman Iveonna “NeNe” Ward tossed in 10 points and came up with 6 steals and 3 rebounds for the winners. Freshman teammate Laila Smith followed with 9 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Junior AnnaGrey Heustess checked all the stat columns with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots. Junior Karli Priest dished out 2 assists.

The Lady Eagles built a 16-9 first period lead then rode a 22-14 second quarter surge to a 38-23 halftime lead. East Bladen led 46-31 at the third quarter break.

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles improved to 3-1 in the SAC-7 and 14-1 overall. East Bladen will host Red Springs Thursday at 6 p.m. in a make-up game.
