ELIZABETHTOWN – Senior Patience Ward and sophomore Mya McDonald combined for 40 points Wednesday night to lead East Bladen’s Lady Eagles to a 66-41 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball victory over Fairmont.
Ward led the Lady Eagles with 22 points, and McDonald followed with 18 points. Freshman AnnaGrey Heustess tallied 7 points, and sophomore Alexus Mitchell and senior Abbie Cross added 6 points each.

Mitchell threw in a basket and a free throw, and McDonald, Heustess and freshman Maegan Burney pumped in baskets as the Lady Eagles built an 11-8 first quarter lead. Ward canned 2 free throws in the period.
Cross tossed in 2 baskets, and McDonald sank 2 free throws and a basket in the second period. Ward, senior Lorna Mendell, Heustess and Mitchell popped in baskets, and Ward, Heustess and junior Katie Evans netted free throws as the East Bladen lead grew to 30-18 at halftime.
Ward blistered the nets with 4 third period baskets. McDonald drilled in 3 baskets and a free throw, Mendell dropped in a basket, and Cross and Heustess cashed in 2 free throws each as the Lady Eagles stretched the lead to 52-30.
Ward connected for 3 baskets and 3 free throws in the final quarter, and McDonald contributed 2 more baskets and a free throw.
Senior Georgianna Walters and freshman Amyrikal Vaught shared scoring honors for Fairmont with 13 points each.
Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles, now 6-1 in league play and 11-3 overall, will host Whiteville after the exam break on January 17.
