CERRO GORDO – A 47-7 first-half blitz propelled East Bladen to a 66-21 Three Rivers Conference girls’ basketball victory over West Columbus Tuesday night.

Sophomore Alexus Mitchell fired in a pair of 3-point shots and another basket during the Lady Eagles 21-7 first quarter spurt. Seniors Abbey Cross and Patience Ward threw in 2 baskets each. Sophomore Mya McDonald nailed a 3-point shot, and senior Lorna Mendell dropped in a basket.

Freshman AnnaGrey Heustess worked the paint for 2 baskets and 3 free throws as the Eagles shutout the Lady Vikings 26-0 in the second quarter. McDonald drained a 3-point shot, another basket and a free throw. Ward sank 3 free throws and a basket. Cross popped in 2 more baskets, and Mendell and Aaniyah Jackson added a basket each.

Mitchell buried a 3-point shot, another basket and a free throw in the third quarter. McDonald tossed in a basket and a free throw, Mendell and freshman Maegan Burney delivered a basket each, and junior Sara Gargala hit a free throw as the lead grew to 61-14.

Jackson drilled in a 3-point shot and another basket in the fourth quarter.

Mitchell led the Lady Eagles with 14 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. McDonald filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, 6 assists, 3 steals and 4 rebounds. Ward finished with 9 points, 3 steals and 2 assists.

Cross totaled 8 points, Heustess racked up 7 points and 2 assists. Jackson finished with 7 points and 2 steals. Mendell followed with 6 points and 5 rebounds. Gargala pulled down 5 rebounds, and junior Katie Evans added 2 steals and 2 assists.

Hailey Brown led West Columbus with 12 points.

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles improved to 11-1 in TRC play and 17-3 overall and will travel to Fairmont Friday night.
