TABOR CITY – East Bladen took a solid hold on first place in the Three Rivers Conference Friday night with a 67-36 girls basketball victory over South Columbus Friday night.

The Lady Eagles improved to 8-1 in league play and 13-1 overall, while second-place Red Springs dropped to 6-2 with their loss at West Bladen.

East Bladen took charge early by doubling the score on the Lady Stallions 23-11 in the first quarter then stretching the lead to 39-18 at halftime. The Lady Eagles widened the gap to 56-30 at the third quarter break.

Junior Erica McKoy led the Lady Eagle offense with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. Junior Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson just missed a double-double with 16 points, 9 assists, 7 rebounds and 4 steals.

Sophmore Patience Ward continued to be a double-double machine with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Shardajah Brown pumped in 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.

Junior Anna Kate White added 6 points and 5 rebounds, and freshman Katie Evans grabbed 4 rebounds.

“I am very proud of the girls tonight,” said East Bladen Coach Patty Evers. “Our chemistry and team identity seems to be coming around. It was a great team effort. Erica, Shar, JaTyra and Anna Kate had good shooting nights and that is always good to see.”

The Lady Eagles will travel to rival West Bladen Tuesday night.
