ELIZABETHTOWN – Junior Patience Ward sparked a 23-5 opening burst that propelled East Bladen to a 69-36 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball victory over South Robeson Tuesday night.

Ward tossed in 6 baskets and a free throw during the first quarter run. Senior Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson threw in a 3-point shot, another basket and a free throw, and senior Ashley Hardin nailed a 3-point shot.

Hardin buried two more 3-point bombs in the second period. Moore-Peterson dropped in a basket and a free throw, Anna Kate White popped in a basket, and Ward sank 2 free throws for a 37-19 Lady Eagle halftime lead.

White knocked down a 3-point shot from the left corner then cashed in 2 free throws in the third quarter. Senior Erica McKoy canned a 12-footer and another basket, and freshman Maya McDonald netted a pair of baskets.

Moore-Peterson turned a steal into a lay-up, junior Lorna Mendell put back a rebound, and Ward flipped in a basket as the East Bladen lead grew to 56-25 at the quarter break.

Moore-Peterson canned 4 free throws and a basket in the final quarter, and McDonald delivered a pair of baskets. Ward turned a steal into a 3-point play as the Lady Eagle lead reached 40 points and initiated a running clock for the last few minutes.

Ward topped the Lady Eagle scoring list with 20 points, and Moore-Peterson finished with 17 points. Hardin tallied 9 points, and McDonald totaled 8 points.

Center Nytia Lewis led the Lady Mustangs with 14 points, and Zaneta Ellerbee added 11 points.

East Bladen remains atop the Three Rivers with an 8-0 record and a 13-1 overall mark. The Lady Eagles will travel to West Columbus Wednesday night.
