BLADENBORO – LaKayla Chavis’ 16 points led 3 Fairmont players in double-figures as the Lady Tornadoes defeated West Bladen 72-32 Wednesday night in Southeastern Athletic Conference girls’ basketball action.

Amyrikal Vaught followed with 15 points for Fairmont, and Destiny Melvin finished with 11 points. Teammate Niah Smith added 8 points.

Junior Lainey Autry topped the Lady Knight scoring with 8 points. Sophomore Mallory Bryan tossed in 6 points, and senior Hannah Pait and junior Kirsten Warrick tallied 5 points each.

A Melvin 3-ball and free throw sparked Fairmont to an early 15-5 lead. Sophomore Brookee Singletary sank 2 free throws, and Autry threw in a basket for the Lady Knights.

Warrick buried a 3-point shot and another basket for West in the 2nd period. Hannah Pait worked the paint for 2 baskets and a free throw, and Autry fired in a 3-point shot. Bryan and junior Makayla Wright connected on 2 foul shots each to keep the Lady Knights within 36-22 at halftime.

Chavis canned 3 free throws and a basket for Fairmont in the 2nd period, and Vaught and Zariah Locklear added 2 baskets each. Chavis and Vaught scored 6 points each in the 3rd quarter.

Bryan pumped in a basket and 2 free throws for West in the 3rd period, and Autry and sophomore Kiera Lewis drained 3-point shots for the Lady Knights in the final quarter.

The Lady Knights, now 8-8 overall, will host Red Springs Thursday at 6 p.m. Fairmont, now 4-1 in league play, will visit East Bladen Thursday for a 6 p.m. game.
