DUNN – Midway rode a 16-10 fourth-quarter surge to a 39-33 girls basketball victory over West Bladen on Monday night in the non-conference season-opener for both teams.

Baskets by sophomore Haley George and senior Lexie Corrothers pulled West Bladen into a 23-23 tie at the end of the third quarter.

Senior Caitlyn Holland keyed the Lady Raider closing run with 5 points, and center Makenzi Hudson and Rylie Williams added 2 baskets each to the decisive run.

West Bladen senior Kasee Singletary nailed a 3-point shot and a free throw, and Corrothers threw in a basket and 2 free throws to keep the Lady Knights close.

“A few hustle plays hurt,” said West Bladen Coach Brian McCleney. “We got careless with the ball.”

Corrothers led all scorers with 15 points for the Lady Knights. Singletary finished with 7 points, and George totaled 6 points.

Holland and Rylie Williams shared Midway scoring honors with 9 points each, and Kris-shyia McKoy followed with 7 points.

Corrothers sank 3 free throws in the first quarter then fired in 3 baskets in the second period to keep West Bladen within 21-18 at halftime. George tossed in a pair of baskets in the second period.

The Lady Knights will travel to Union on Tuesday, November 26.
