RED SPRINGS – Senior guard Taya Jones poured in 25 points Friday night to lead Red Springs to a 43-35 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball victory over East Bladen.

It was the first loss of the season for the Lady Eagles. Jones collected 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Teammate Taylynn Atkinson followed with 6 points and 6 rebounds.

East Bladen, now 2-1 in league play and 4-1 overall, will host West Columbus Tuesday night.

Junior Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson led the East Bladen scoring with 9 points. Sophmore Patience Ward tossed in 8 points, and junior Erica McKoy scored 7 points.

The Lady Eagles were plagued by 14 turnovers. “It was a sloppy game,” said East Bladen Coach Patty Evers. “We missed 8 free throws in the fourth quarter that would have kept us in the game.”

“It was just a lack of fundamentals with us that we can’t overcome sometimes,” continued Coach Evers. “We also missed a lot of easy baskets.”

EAST BLADEN (35) – Katie Evans, Erica McKoy 7, Kaley Smith, Izzy Smith, Shardajah Brown 5, Anna Kate White, Abbie Cross, Patience Ward 8, Ashley Hardin 4, Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson 9, Lorna Mendell 2.
