RED SPRINGS – Senior Victoria Henderson and junior Taya Jones combined for eight 3-point baskets and 27 points to lead Red Springs to a 60-38 non-conference girls basketball victory over West Bladen Wednesday night.
Henderson drained five 3-point baskets and topped the Lady Red Devil scoring with 15 points. Jones delivered a trio of 3-points baskets and 12 points.
Henderson threw in a pair of 3-point baskets, and Jones and Kelsey Locklear nailed one 3-point basket each in the first period as Red Springs built a 17-8 lead.
Senior Logan Autry tossed in a pair of baskets in the first quarter for West Bladen, and junior Patience Parker and senior Akira Grimes added a basket each.
Henderson and Jones hit one 3-ball each in the second period as the Red Springs lead grew to 30-16 at halftime.
Sophmore Erica McKoy banked in a 16-footer for the Lady Knights, and senior Jerena Purdie powered in a turn-around and sank a trio of free throws in the quarter.
The Henderson barrage continued with a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter, and Jones added one 3-ball as the gap widened to 47-28.
Autry flipped in a runner and a foul shot, and junior Elizabeth Allbright tossed in a 14-footer for West Bladen. Grimes sank 2 free throws, and Parker drilled a 3-point shot then found senior Laikyn Pait in the lane for a lay-up.
Autry canned 2 free throws in the fourth quarter and led the Lady Knight scoring with 10 points. Pait made 4 of 4 free throws in the period and finished with 6 points.
Grimes banked in a 16-footer in the final period to finish with 7 points. Purdie contributed 5 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Parker also scored 5 points.
The Lady Knights, now 2-3, will travel to South Brunswick Friday night.
