TABOR CITY – Senior Kasee Singletary and sophomore Haley George sparked a 14-0 second period blitz that carried West Bladen to a 34-12 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball victory over South Columbus Tuesday night.

Singletary drove for a lay-up and tacked on a free throw in the first quarter. Junior Jamiyah Melvin-Hall sank a free throw, and George popped in a 10-footer for a 6-2 Lady Knight lead.

Senior Seniah Johnson began the second period with a 10-foot jumper. Singletary buried a 3-point shot then stole the ball and raced for a lay-up. George tossed in 3 free throws and a follow shot. Senior Lexie Corrothers raced end-to-end for a lay-up and a 20-2 West Bladen halftime lead.

Singletary canned a free throw, Johnson muscled in a follow, and Corrothers stole the ball and dashed for a lay-up to start the second half. George sent a pass to Melvin-Hall for a lay-up, and Corrothers delivered an assist to freshman Rylee Chadwick for a lay-up and a 29-8 West Bladen lead.

Johnson nailed a 3-point shot in the final quarter, and Singletary and George added free throws.

Singletary led the Lady Knights with 10 points, and George followed with 8 points and 6 steals. Johnson finished with 7 points.

“I don’t know if it is the lights or what, but we just don’t seem to play well in this gym,” said Lady Knight Coach Brian McCleney. “We really had to battle and give them (South) credit, they are playing a lot of freshmen but they really fought hard.”

McCleney continued, “Kasee was great tonight and provided senior leadership for us. Haley did a good job of taking care of the ball. Lexie only scored 4 points but helped us in other ways, and Jamiyah gave us a lift off the bench and scored 3 points.”

Corrothers grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds and had 4 steals, and Melvin-Hall pulled down 6 rebounds. Freshman Kaylee Etheridge and sophomore Bree Scott scored 4 points each for the Lady Stallions.

The Lady Knights, now 11-3 in league play and 14-5 overall, will host first-place St. Pauls Wednesday night.
