BLADENBORO – Junior Lexie Corrothers fired in 7 of her 13 points in the final quarter as West Bladen held on to a 38-36 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball victory over Red Springs Friday night.

The Lady Knights took a 29-26 lead into the final frame, and Corrothers started the period with a basket then buried a 3-point shot. Junior Kasee Singetary threw in a basket, and Corrothers added 2 free throws to pull out the win.

Singletary topped the West Bladen scoring column with 14 points, and freshman Haley George added 5 points.

George nailed a 3-point shot in the first quarter, and Corrothers, Singletary and junior Mikayla Meadows added baskets as the Lady Knights edged in front 9-7.

Senior Carley Dawson sank 4 of 4 free throws in the second quarter, Corrothers made 2 free throws, and Singletary tossed in a basket and a free throw as the Lady Knights took an 18-15 halftime lead.

Singletary lit up the scoreboard with a 3-point goal and a pair of 2-point baskets in the third quarter. George and Corrothers tacked on a basket each to keep West up 29-26 at the quarter break.

Senior Taylynn Atkinson rang up 8 points in each half to lead the Red Springs scoring with 16 points. Teammate Jalexis Bratcher scored 8 of her 13 points in the second half.

Coach Brian McCleney’s Lady Knights improved to 2-0 in league play and 5-2 overall. West Bladen will travel to East Columbus Tuesday night.
