BLADENBORO – Junior Lainey Autry poured in 17 points Thursday night to lead West Bladen to a 41-38 Southeastern Athletic Conference girls’ basketball victory over Red Springs.

Autry drained a trio of 3-point shots and added 4 other baskets. Sophomore Mallory Bryan and junior Makayla Wright totaled 10 points each for the Lady Knights.

Monica Washington topped the Red Springs scoring with 11 points, and teammates, Brooke Wilkins and Nakira Hunt chipped in with 8 points each.

Autry keyed a 10-2 opening run by the winners with a 3-ball and another basket. Bryan nailed a 3-point shot, and Wright dropped in a basket in the period.

The Lady Knights kept their lead at 21-15 at halftime as Autry fired in another 3-ball and 2 more baskets. Junior Kirsten Warrick tossed in a basket, and Bryan sank 2 free throws.

Wright and Bryan connected on 2 free throws each in the 3rd period, and Wright, Bryan and senior Hannah Pait threw in baskets. Autry bombed in another 3-point shot as the West lead grew to 34-26 at the quarter break.

Autry pumped in another basket in the final period, and Wright connected on 4 free throws. Bryan also added a free throw to help the Lady Knights withstand the Lady Red Devils closing rally.

Coach Brian McCleney’s Lady Knights improved to 9-8 on the season and will travel to St. Pauls Tuesday.
