Seven different West Bladen players scored in the fourth quarter as the Lady Knights rode a 14-7 closing run to a 41-33 victory at Union in the Four County Conference girls basketball opener for both teams.

Junior Laikyn Pait sank 4 free throws in the final quarter, and juniors Kaylee Stevens and Jenna Dove and sophmores Elizabeth Allbright and Patience Parker made one basket each during the clinching run.

Pait and junior Alanna Ludlum drained 3-point shots in the opening period as the Lady Knights took a 14-10 lead. Pait bombed the nets with a pair of 3-point shots in the second quarter, and junior Akira Grimes nailed another 3-point shot as the West lead grew to 24-17 at halftime.

Union’s Destiny Robinson threw in 6 of her game-high 22 points in the third quarter as the Lady Spartans sliced the West lead to 27-26.

Pait finished with 18 points to lead the Lady Knight scoring, and Dove, Allbright and Grimes contributed 4 points each.

Coach Rickie Rhoda’s Lady Knights improved to 2-3 overall with the win and will host West Columbus Friday night.
