FAYETTEVILLE – Juniors Kasee Singletary and Lexie Corrothers keyed a 15-8 third quarter run that propelled West Bladen to a 42-33 victory over Westover in the non-conference season opener for both schools.
The Lady Knights led 16-14 at halftime, but Corrothers drained a 3-point shot and threw in two more baskets, and Singletary tossed in a trio of baskets as the West Bladen lead grew to 31-22.
Singletary netted two more baskets in the final quarter, and Corrothers, junior Mikayla Meadows and freshmen guard Haley George sank two free throws each to preserve the West Bladen victory.
George and Singletary shared scoring honors for the Lady Knights with 12 points each. Corrothers pumped in 11 points.
West Bladen grabbed an early 6-3 lead as George popped in 2 baskets, and Corrothers added one.
George fired in a pair of baskets in the second period and added two free throws to keep the Lady Knights on top. Senior Carley Dawson dropped in a basket, and Singletary hit two free throws.
Salome Campbell led all scorers with 13 points for Westover.
Westover won the jayvee game 40-19. The two teams will play again Tuesday night at West Bladen.
