ROSE HILL – Senior Mikayla Winebarger and junior Scjada Ellison threw in two baskets each in the final quarter as West Bladen pulled away to a 56-41 non-conference girls basketball victory over Union.

The Lady Knights led 40-33 after three periods then outscored the Lady Spartans 16-8 in the final frame. Senior Indiyah Williams drilled in a 3-point shot in the final period for West, and senior Patience Parker tossed in a basket and a free throw.

West Bladen battled the home team to a 12-12 stand-off in the opening quarter. Sophmore guard Kasee Singletary fired in four baskets and a free throw for the Lady Knights in the period, and Parker added a basket.

Union’s Latyra English pumped in 6 of her game-high 14 points for Union in the first quarter, and teammate Lazamah Johnson netted two baskets in the period.

Williams and senior Chasitty Lacey bombed in 3-point baskets to spark an 18-10 second quarter West Bladen surge that produced a 30-22 halftime lead. Parker sank four free throws in the period, and Winebarger, junior Conner Brisson and Singletary contributed a basket each to the West rally.

Justice Johnson popped in a basket and 2 free throws in the third period as Union trimmed the lead to 40-33. Lacey drained a 3-point shot and another basket in the third quarter for West, and Winebarger and Seniah Johnson chipped in with a basket each.

Singletary topped the West Bladen scoring with 11 points, and Parker followed with 9 points. Winebarger and Lacey finished with 8 points each, and Williams added 6 points.

Coach Brian McCleney’s Lady Knights, now 2-6, will play North Brunswick Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the East Bladen Holiday Classic.
