DUBLIN – West Bladen’s pressure defense forced a number of Red Springs turnovers Friday night as the Lady Knights rolled to a 36-14 first half lead and eventual 60-38 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball victory.
Coach Brian McCleney’s Lady Knights had played a close game at Red Springs early in the season dropping a 48-42 decision. Friday West Bladen jumped out to an early 16-8 lead.
Sophmore guard Kasee Singletary netted a basket and three free throws in the first quarter. Senior Elizabeth Allbright pumped in a basket and 2 free throws, and senior Chasitty Lacey bombed in a 3-point shot.
Sophmore Seniah Johnson flipped in a basket, and junior Carley Dawson canned a pair of free throws as the Lady Knights doubled the score.
The Lady Knights blitzed the visitors 20-6 in the second period to take a 36-14 halftime lead. Dawson sank 2 baskets and 2 free throws, Lacey threw in a pair of baskets, and Johnson nailed a 3-point shot.
Singletary drove for a basket and a free throw, and senior Patience Parker and junior Scjada Ellison tossed in a basket each.
Lacey drained another 3-ball in the third quarter. Singletary and junior Conner Brisson popped in a basket and a free throw each, and a Parker free throw kept West up 46-24 at the break.
Parker fired in a trio of baskets in the final quarter. Freshman Nyasia Ellison, Brisson, Singletary and Johnson added a basket each.
“We were able to turn them over which led to some easy baskets,” said Coach McCleney. “Everyone contributed. I am very proud of the girls and look forward to trying to improve daily.”
Singletary topped the Lady Knight scoring with 13 points. Lacey followed with 10 points, and Parker finished with 9 points. Dawson totaled 8 points, and Johnson added 7 points.
Katelyn Culbreth scored 10 of her game-high 19 points for Red Springs in the final quarter.
It was the second conference win in a row for the Lady Knights who host first-place East Bladen Tuesday night.
