DUBLIN – A 14-0 third quarter run by West Columbus carried the Lady Vikings to a 43-28 victory over West Bladen Wednesday night in Three Rivers Conference girls basketball action.

Junior Conner Brisson raced for a lay-up to begin the second half that pulled West Bladen to within 19-15. Raeana Goodman and Tahnijah McKoy threw in 5 points each to lead the 14-point West Columbus spurt that pushed the lead to 33-15.

Brisson drove for another lay-up to open the final quarter and snap the West Bladen scoring drought. Senior Elizabeth Allbright dished an assist to senior Patience Parker for a lay-up to keep the Lady Knights within 35-19.

A Goodman 3-pointer padded the visitors lead, but Parker hit a free throw then sent a pass to junior Scjada Ellison for a lay-up. Sophmore Seniah Johnson stole the ball and dropped in a lay-up then banked in a runner to trim the margin to 41-26.

Scjada Ellison powered in a rebound to finish with a team-high 8 points for West Bladen. Parker finished with 6 points, and Brisson totaled 5 points.

Injuries have plagued the Lady Knights throughout the season and have played the last 3 games without starters Kasee Singletary and Mykayla Winebarger.

“We’ve just got too many people playing out of position because of the injuries,” said West Bladen Coach Brian McCleney. “I can’t fault the effort. With all the injuries it’s tough, but the effort has always been there.”

McKoy bombed in a 3-ball and another basket to lead West Columbus to a 9-6 first period lead. Allbright and Scjada Ellison pumped in baskets for West Bladen in the quarter, and Brisson and Parker hit free throws.

Parker, Allbright and Scjada Ellison tossed in baskets in the second period, and freshman Nyasia Ellison netted a free throw to keep the Lady Knights within 19-13 at halftime.

Goodman led all scorers with 15 points, and McKoy followed with 14 for West Columbus.

The Lady Knights will host St. Pauls Friday night.
