WHITEVILLE – Whiteville rode a 10-point advantage at the foul line to a 43-40 Three Rivers Conference girls’ basketball victory over West Bladen Friday night.

Trinity Smith made all 4 of her free throw attempts in the final period as the Lady Wolfpack connected on 6 of 7 foul shots in the quarter, while the Lady Knights converted only 2 of 5 attempts. For the game Whiteville made 21 of 28 free throws; West Bladen was only 11-of-21 at the line.

Sophomore Trinity Smith topped the Whiteville attack with 15 points, and junior I’Reona Johnson finished with 8 points. Senior Lexie Corrothers and freshman Rylee Chadwick shared scoring honors for West with 8 points each. Sophomore Haley George followed with 7 points, and senior Seniah Johnson added 6 points.

Chadwick sparked the Lady Knights to an early 13-8 lead with 2 baskets and 2 free throws. Johnson nailed a 3-point shot, and George and senior Kasee Singletary sank 2 free throws each.

Corrothers threw in 2 baskets and 2 free throws in the second quarter. George flipped in a basket and a free throw, and senior Mikayla Meadows dropped in a basket to keep West on top 22-16 at halftime.

Trinity Smith rallied Whiteville with 3 free throws and a basket in the third period. Senior Jazmin Faison popped in 2 baskets, and Johnson contributed 2 baskets as the Lady Wolfpack pulled to within 30-29.

Freshman Lainey Autry, George, Chadwick and Corrothers pumped in a basket each to keep the Lady Knights on top.

Besides Smith’s 4 free throws, the Lady Wolfpack received a basket and a free throw from junior Emily Hewett in the final quarter. Johnson and Meadows scored a basket and a free throw each for West in the period, and sophomore Hannah Pait and Singletary added baskets.

The Lady Knights, now 9-3 in league play and 12-5 overall, will travel to West Columbus Tuesday night.
