DUBLIN – Whiteville built a 23-16 halftime lead and held on for a 47-44 Three Rivers Conference girls basketball victory over West Bladen Friday night.

Guard Alex Bellamy threw in 8 of her 10 points for Whiteville in the opening quarter. Freshman I’Reonna Johnson hurled in a 3-point shot as the visitors took an 11-6 lead. Sophmore Kasee Singletary and senior Chasitty Lacey dropped in baskets for West Bladen.

Marquasia Smith bombed in a 3-point shot and a 2-point basket to keep Whiteville up 23-16 at halftime. Lacey fired in two baskets and two free throws for the Lady Knights in the second period.

Breanna McCellon rang up 6 of her team-high 11 points in the third period as Whiteville maintained a 35-27 lead. Baskets from Lacey, senior Indiyah Williams, junior Conner Brisson and sophmore Seniah Johnson kept the Lady Knights close.

Brisson drained a 3-point shot and a 2-point basket to spark a 17-12 West Bladen closing run that came up just short. Junior teammate Carley Dawson dropped in 2 baskets in the period, and Lacey buried a 3-point shot. Williams and Singletary contributed a basket each to the rally.

Lacey topped the Lady Knight scoring with 13 points. Brisson followed with 8 points, and Singletary finished with 6 points. Dawson tallied 5 points.

The Lady Knights travel to Union Monday night for a non-conference game.
