BLADENBORO – Sophomore Eliana Padilla scored both goals Thursday night as West Bladen’s Lady Knights ran their winning streak to 6 games in a row with a 2-1 Southeastern Athletic Conference girls’ soccer victory over Midway.

“It was a really good week for us,” said an excited West Bladen Coach Kristen Parker whose Lady Knights captured a pair of 1-0 and 2-1 wins over Midway. “It feels good.”

The Lady Knights struck early as Padilla banged in a goal 2:30 into the opening half off of an assist from junior Lainey Autry. Midway answered just a few minutes later with the tying goal.

With 15 minutes left in the 2nd half, Padilla knocked in the game-winner off of an assist from sophomore Brookee Singletary. Singletary had scored the only Lady Knight goal in Tuesday’s win.

Senior Hannah Hester played all 80 minutes in goal for West Bladen and was credited with 8 saves.

“It was a whole team effort,” said Parker. “We didn’t look good much of the game, but in the end, we had some good looks and were able to put one in the back of the net. Midway definitely came out strong, and at times, wanted it more than us…But we did it…We earned it.”

The Lady Knights improved to 6-2 in the SAC-7 and 7-2 overall and now lead Midway by 2 games in the battle for 3rd place. Next up after the Easter break for the Lady Knights is a home game on April 26 against SAC-7 co-leader Clinton.
