RED SPRINGS – Senior Lainey Autry bombarded the nets with 7 shots and knocked 3 of them into the net to record her 3rd ‘Hat Trick’ of the season Thursday night as West Bladen claimed a 4-1 Southeastern Athletic Conference girls’ soccer victory over Red Springs.
Autry also assisted on sophomore O’Mara McDonald’s goal. McDonald returned the favor with an assist on one of Autry’s goals. Senior Kaden Thurman and sophomore Jazmy Funez Aranda were credited with assists on the other 2 Autry goals.
Juniors Brookee Singletary and Shamaria Jackson attempted 3 shots each for the Lady Knights, and McDonald, Funez Aranda, senior Eva Ayala-Martinez and Kaden Thurman fired off 2 shots each. Junior Sara Dillard also had a shot on goal.
The teams were tied 1-1 at halftime, but the Lady Knights pulled away with 3 goals after intermission.
Sophomore Ashley Sanchez-Resendiz sparked the West defense with 17 steals. Ayala-Martinez racked up 14 steals, and sophomore Haliegh Seabolt finished with 13 steals. Sophomore Yuridia Santana-Dominguez was right behind her with 12 steals.
Jackson came up with 11 steals, and Funez Aranda had 10 steals. Freshman Makenna Thurman was credited with 9 steals, and Kaden Thurman followed with 7 steals. Autry, Singletary and McDonald had 6 steals each.
Junior Briana Carranza Toledo recorded 7 saves in goal for the Lady Knights.
Coach Kristen Parker’s West Bladen squad posted their 2nd straight win to improve to 2-4 in SAC-7 play and 5-10 overall. The Lady Knights will visit St. Pauls Tuesday night
