BLADENBORO – West Bladen exploded for 3 goals in overtime to pull away from Red Springs and claim a 5-2 Southeastern Athletic Conference girls soccer victory Tuesday night.

Senior Eva Ayala-Martinez and junior Brookee Singletary fired in 2 goals each for the winners, and senior Lainey Autry knocked in the other Lady Knight goal. Singletary and sophomore Jazmy Funez Aranda were credited with 1 assist each for West.

The two teams traded goals in the 1st half, and each team scored 1 goal each in the 2nd 40 minutes to send the game to overtime knotted 2-2.

Autry peppered the Lady Red Devil goal with 9 shots, and Ayala-Martinez and Singletary attempted 5 shots each. Senior Kaden Thurman had 2 shots, and Funez Aranda, freshman Karla Mejia Rodriguez and sophomore Jessica Verdugo-Gomez had 1 shot each.

Sophomore Haileigh Seabolt sparked the Lady Knight defense with 14 steals. Freshman Makenna Thurman was credited with 6 steals, and Funez Aranda, freshman Faith Wren and senior Nadia Diaz Deleon had 4 steals each.

Junior Briana Carranza Toledo was credited with 6 saves in goal for the Lady Knights.

It was the 1st SAC-7 victory for Coach Kristen Parker’s Lady Knights, now 1-4 in the league and 4-10 overall. The 2 teams will play again Thursday at 6 p.m. at Red Springs.
