RED SPRINGS – Red Springs pulled out a 2-2 tie in the completion of a suspended game then defeated West Bladen 5-2 in overtime in Three Rivers Conference girls soccer action.

West Bladen had held a 1-0 lead at West Bladen on March 20th when the game was stopped by lightning early in the second half. Senior Melennie Hernandez had scored the goal on an assist from sophomore Claudia Reyes.

When play resumed Thursday night, Red Springs senior Wendy Molina tied the game with a goal with 11:19 left in the game.

Freshman Josefina Taboda answered with a goal that put the Lady Knights on top 2-1 with just 4:48 remaining. However Molina responded with her second goal a minute later, and the two teams played through two scoreless overtime sessions and remained tied 2-2.

Taboda put West Bladen ahead 1-0 with a goal midway through the first half of the second game. Senior Brinkley Collier fired in a goal that put the Lady Knights up 2-0 at halftime.

Ten minutes into the second half, Molina scored two goals in less than a minute to tie the score 2-2. Molina scored a third goal a minute into the first overtime to put the Lady Red Devils ahead 3-2.

Itzia Tellez and Raynas Zangana tacked on insurance goals for Red Springs in the second overtime period.
 
West Bladen goalie Alyssa Smith was credited with 7 saves in the suspended match and had 11 saves in the second match.

West Bladen is scheduled to host St. Pauls Tuesday
