CLINTON – Senior Miller Heustess pitched a 4-hitter and knocked in 3 runs with 3 hits to lead East Bladen to a 14-3 Four County Conference softball victory over Clinton Thursday night.

Heustess allowed only 3 unearned runs, walked 3 and struck out five to notch her fourth win of the season. At the plate Heustess batted 3-5 with a triple, 2 runs scored and 3 runs batted in.

Senior Lauren Merritt slammed an rbi double and scored twice for East Bladen. Freshman Anna Kate White belted an rbi single and scored 3 runs. Sophmore Faith Johnson cracked an rbi single and scored twice.

Sophmore Shardajah Brown laced an rbi single and scored a run. Junior Emily Scott, sophmore Majesti Corbett and freshmen Olivia Hollingsworth and Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson scored one run each.

Johnson was hit by a pitch and scored the first Lady Eagle run on a passed ball.

The Lady Eagles added 4 runs in the second to extend their lead to 5-0. White, Corbett and Hollingsworth drew walks, and White darted home on a wild pitch.

Heustess delivered a 2-run single that scored Corbett and Hollingsworth. Johnson smacked a single that scored Heustess.

Clinton scored all 3 of their runs in the bottom of the second on a walk, 3 errors and Callie Sumner’s rbi single.

Merritt walked and eventually scored on a passed ball in the third inning to pad the East lead to 6-3. White walked and scored on an error in the Lady Eagle fifth to stretch the margin to 7-3.

East Bladen broke the game open with a 7-run sixth inning. Heustess walloped a triple to start the inning. Scott walked, and Johnson reached on an error as Heustess scored. Brown ripped a single that brought home Scott.

Merritt clubbed a double that scored Johnson, and White swatted a single that drove in Brown. Merritt and White scampered home on wild pitches. Moore-Peterson walked and sprinted home when Heustess connected for her third hit of the night.

The game was stopped after six innings by the mercy rule.

Sumner batted 2-3 with an rbi and a run scored to lead Clinton.

East Bladen, now 3-7 in league play and 4-8 overall, will host league-leader Heide Trask Tuesday at 6 p.m.
