West Bladen’s Lady Knights pounded out 17 hits, and junior Kathryn Schultz pitched a one-hitter as West rolled to a 20-1 non-conference softball victory at St. Pauls.
Schultz struck out five, walked three and allowed only a 2-out triple by Cheyenne Brock in the second inning. Brock scored the lone St. Pauls run on a wild pitch.
The Lady Knights exploded for 8 first inning runs after two were out. Junior Laikyn Pait swatted a single to rightfield, and junior Alanna Ludlum beat out an infield hit.
Freshman Carli Dawson reached base on an error as Pait raced home. Ludlum dashed home on a wild pitch, and freshman Conner Brisson reached base on an infield hit. Dawson darted home on an error.
Junior Jenna Dove’s infield hit plated Brisson, and Schultz dropped a single into left-centerfield that scored Dove. Junior Morgan Schumacher and Anderson were both hit by pitches.
Junior Logan Autry slapped an infield hit that scored Patience Parker, the courtesy runner for Schultz. Both Schumacher and Anderson scooted home on wild pitches.
Brisson ripped a single to left to begin the second inning, moved up on a wild pitch and scampered home when Dove belted a single. Dove eventually scored on a wild pitch. Schumacher walked, advanced on an error and scored on a wild pitch.
Ludlum raked a double down the leftfield line to start the third inning and scored when Dawson smacked a single to centerfield for a 12-1 lead.
The Lady Knights mounted another 2-out rally in the fourth inning. Pait and Ludlum both reached base on infield hits, and Dawson was hit by a pitch. Brisson hammered a triple over the rightfielder’s head that drove in all 3 runners.
Brisson bolted home on a wild pitch, and Dove yanked a single to left. Schultz reached on a fielder’s choice, and Schumacher walked.
Anderson’s infield hit scored Dove, and a wild pitch plated Parker who was running for Schultz. Autry’s infield hit brought home Schumacher for a 19-1 lead.
Brisson reached base on an error in the fifth inning, and Schultz knocked her in with a single.
Ludlum batted 3-4 with a double and scored 3 runs. Dove also batted 3-4 with 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Brisson finished 3-5 at the plate with a triple, 3 rbi’s and 3 runs scored.
Pait was 2-4 with 2 runs scored, and Autry batted 2-5 with 2 rbi’s. Schultz also finished 2-5 at the plate with 2 rbi’s. Anderson had a single, an rbi and a runs scored. Dawson collected one hit, 2 runs scored and an rbi.
Coach Joey Autry’s Lady Knights will visit South Robeson Thursday for a 5 p.m. game.
