The State of Ohio is on a mission—to generate technological ideas for fighting the opioid epidemic in the United States. Governor John Kasich is issuing the challenge not just to Ohioans but to everyone on a global scale. The Ohio Opioid Technology Challenge challenges citizens, medical professionals, scientists and professionals in technological fields to come up with new and creative solutions to end the Opioid epidemic.

The challenge is made up of three phases. The first phase is the idea generation phase and lasts through December 15th. Ideas can be submitted through a website which is dedicated to the project. The top five ideas which are deemed have the greatest probability for success will be awarded up to $10,000 each. Up to 40 runners-up will be placed in a drawing for $500.

The challenge is open to scientists, computer technicians and other medical professionals as well as citizens. The winning ideas will move on to a second and third phase and ultimately, implementation, according to reports.

The Opioid Technology Challenge is similar to the concept where the NFL reached out to citizens and medical professionals regarding new ideas for more quickly diagnosing and treating concussions, according to reports.
