If you have ever played golf or watched golf on TV you might have heard something you didn’t
understand. Below is some common terminology used by golfers … leaving the profanity out.

Straight as a martin to a gourdhole (When you hit a shot straight at the flag)

Hosel Rocket (When you hit the ball on the hosel of your club)

Fried Egg (When the ball you hit in the sand trap buries itself)

Albatross (When you make a 2 on a par 5)

Chunk (When you hit behind the ball)

Texas Wedge (When you use your putter to get the ball on the green)

Lip Out (When the putt you hit touches the edge of the cup..and does not fall)

Playing The Tips (Courses have different distances…and you play the longest tee)

Gimmee (Your ball is a certain distance from the hole and your playing partner gives you the
putt…. usually within your putter grip)

Mulligan (When you are allowed to hit a second ball off the first tee…when the first ball is not too acceptable)

Ace (When you score a 1 on a par 3. If you are a long hitter you might score a 1 on a par four … which would be an ace and and/or an Albatross)
