Gov. Cooper Encourages Donations and Volunteers to Aid Florence Recovery

RALEIGH: Today, Governor Roy Cooper encouraged people in North Carolina and across the country to donate time and money to Hurricane Florence recovery efforts.

“As North Carolinians affected by Florence begin picking up the pieces, I want them to know that we’ll work diligently to keep people from being left behind,” Gov. Cooper said. “Donating to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund or volunteering can help people who have been devastated by Florence.”

About the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund

The North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund will support non-profit organization and local governments working to address immediate and short-term unmet needs for North Carolina residents who are Hurricane Florence survivors.

To make an online donation to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund, florence-recovery or text FLORENCE to 20222. To give by mail, send your contribution to NC Disaster Relief Fund, 20312 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699. Donations can also be made in person at the Office of the Governor, located at 116 W. Jones Street in Raleigh. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

The United Way of North Carolina is collecting the funds on behalf of the state and theGolden LEAF Foundation will be responsible for disbursing the money. Local organizations such as nonprofits in affected counties will apply to the Golden LEAF Foundation to receive funds from the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund. Individuals and families seeking assistance should contact organizations serving their area.

Volunteer opportunities available through can help survivors of Hurricane Florence immediately and throughout the recovery process.

Opportunities can include serving meals at relief shelters, gathering and distributing essential supplies to those in need, and helping repair damaged homes.
