Governor Pat McCrory joined local officials to tour sites affected by Hurricane Matthew in Fayetteville today. During his visit the governor met with volunteers who are assisting in the recovery efforts and residents affected by flooding at the Fayetteville Habitat for Hummanity Village.

“Those who are helping assist in recovery efforts represent the best of North Carolina, and I am inspired by these neighbors helping neighbors,” said Governor McCrory. “While we still have a lot of work to do, I commend our public and private partners who are working together to restore homes and help people rebuild their lives across eastern North Carolina.”

Cumberland County is among nine counties with transitional sheltering assistance and Fayetteville has one of 15 Disaster Recovery Centers that remains open across the state.

Cumberland County is also eligible for both public and individual federal assistance. To date, 41 counties in eastern and central North Carolina have been approved for public assistance, while 35 counties have now qualified for individual assistance. It is also one of the 37 counties that is eligible for fee waivers from the N.C. Department of Motor Vehicles and one of 28 counties that is eligible for disaster unemployment benefits.

Governor McCrory said he will announce an outline for any required special session to address disaster relief funding and the public school calendar in the near future.
