Councilman Chris Howard of Precinct 6 picked up 36 heaters from UNC Health Southeastern’s Community Health Services Director Lekisha Hammonds on Thursday, Feb. 3. The heaters were provided by a grant from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust through UNC Health Southeastern’s Community Health Services.

A grant from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust has enabled UNC Health Southeastern’s Community Health Services department to purchase 36 space heaters for distribution to residents in South Lumberton who are still recovering from the devastating effects of hurricanes and flooding in their communities. The heaters are being distributed in Precinct 5 and 6 by Councilmen Chris Howard and John Cantey.

“The grant is focused on providing resources to South Lumberton not covered by Medicaid and Medicare to address toxic stress and trauma resulting from the hurricanes and flooding,” said Grant Facilitator Tanya Underwood.

The grant also works to incorporate Robeson Health Care Corporation’s Dr. AJ Robinson Health Center as much as possible with future events and programs offered by the grant to be held either at the clinic or the surrounding area.
