NC DOTLLILLINGTON – A new bridge is coming to Harnett County.
The N.C. Department of Transportation this month awarded a $713,393 contract to Smith-Rowe LLC of Mount Airy to replace the Guy Road bridge over the Black River. It was built in 1960.
Although safe, the bridge has become structurally deficient, which means it requires expensive maintenance. It has vehicle weight limits and does not meet today’s design standards.
The contractor can begin work sometime between November and February, and once started, the company will have six months to finish the project and reopen the road.
