32 year old Jason Lee Evans of Harrells has been identified as the man who robbed a Garland Handi Hugo convenience store late Sunday night.  He fled, then led Sampson County deputies on a high speed chase. 

Evans traveled from Garland, west on NC 411, through Roseboro and Salemburg where he finally was stopped with the aid of stop-sticks.   Officers reportedly attempted to stop the fleeing vehicle along the 14 mile chase.
 
He eventually stopped on NC 242 north of Salemburg near Reeda Branch road.
 
A shoot out followed and Evans was killed.  The deputy has been identified as Louis M. High, Jr.  High and Sgt Edward Vann were involved in the chase.
 
The SBI is investigating the shooting.
 
High has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is a Sampson County Sheriff’s department policy.
