HCA Varsity Boys upsets Freedom Christian

BasketballThe 12th seeded Harrell’s varsity boys basketball team played tough defense against Freedom Christian Friday and outscored them 62-51 to advance in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 2-A basketball playoffs.

HCA had good outside shooting from C.J. Kirchoff and inside help from 6-8 Quante McKinzie to pull off the upset and advance in the tournament.
Kirchoff scored 17 and McKinzie added 16 for the Crusaders. Mardo Tomic scored 17 for Freedom and Gunnar Hardarson added 14 in their final game of the season.
Harrells fell behind early in the game but fought back and led 25-15 at halftime.
Freedom ended season play with a 20-7 record, HCA improves to 19-4,
Harrells will play 4th seeded Davidson Day in Asheville on Thursday as tournament play continues.
