Update 1: Ms. Morgan Malpass, wife of Derrick Webb, who was driving the GMC Denali pick up truck involved in a crash on NC 211 east Thursday, said on Friday morning her husband has been released from Columbus Regional Health System in stable condition with minor injuries.

In an email, she writes, “The other vehicle came into his lane hitting the driver’s side of his truck head on causing the Denali to flip 6 times uncontrollably. A witness to the crash was riding slightly behind Derrick’s truck.”

Mr. Webb was transported to Columbus Regional Health System in Whiteville where his wife was on duty as an RN.

“I’m telling you I don’t know how he made it out of this wreck. God had his hand on him,” writes Malpass.

A head-on collision Thursday evening on NC 211 east of Clarkton resulted in two people being transported to the hospital.

According to Bladen County Fire Marshal Ken Clark, a GMC Denali was struck head-on by a car when it crossed the centerline.

Clark said the driver of the car was airlifted from the scene to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, and the driver of the Denali was transported to Columbus Regional Health System.

Clark did not have the names of the drivers involved, but he did say there were no passengers in either vehicle.
