The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a Heat Advisory….which is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. this evening for Bladen and surrounding areas.
* Locations….All of southeast North Carolina and northeast South Carolina…except the beaches.
* Heat Index Values…across the advisory area will reach near 105 degrees with a few spots as high as 107 degrees this afternoon. Temperatures will climb into the upper 90s with a few spots well inland hitting 100 degrees.
* Impacts…There is a risk of heat-related illnesses for those not taking the proper precautions. The long duration of the high heat and humidity tends to wear down the bodies coping mechanisms.
A Heat Advisory means that the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. To reduce the risk of heat illness during outdoor work the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
People and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles during hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
