Bladen County and surrounding area residents should be aware of a HEAT ADVISORY in effect from 11 a.m. this morning to 7 p.m. this evening.

* Heat Index Advisory…will commonly reach 105 to 107 degrees for a few hours this afternoon.  Temperatures will climb to near or just above 100 degrees.  High temperatures in the lower to mid 90s will be restricted to the beaches.
* Impacts…Risk of heat-related illnesses for those not taking the proper precautions…especially when spending an extended period of time outdoors.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS….
A HEAT ADVISORY means that the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.  To reduce the risk of heat illness during outdoor work the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
People and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles during hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
