The National Weather Service Office in Wilmington has issued a heat advisory for Bladen County until 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Heat index values for Thursday are forecast to reach 108 degrees. The actual temperature is forecast to reach 87 degrees with  high humidity.  According to the National Weather Service office, high heat and humidity can increase the risk for heat-related illnesses and heat stress.

Do not leave children or pets unattended in hot cars. If you are engaging in outdoors activities, take frequent breaks; drink plenty of water; wear light colored, loose fitting clothing. Check on the elderly as they are most susceptible to heat-related illnesses.

Make sure pets have access to plenty of fresh drinking water and access to plenty of shade or an air conditioned building.
