According to Marianne Valentiner, Health Educator/Safe Kids Bladen County, there has been a fourth confirmed child death due to heat stroke in the United States in 2016.

Valentiner said that it is very important for parents to remember to check their automobiles very carefully before locking them.

Heat stroke can occur when an individual’s body temperature rises above 104 degrees F according to the Center’s for Disease Control in Atlanta.  Symptoms fo heat stroke include weakness, hot, red, dry or moist skin; rapid and strong pulse; and possible unconsciousness. Children warm more rapidly than adults.

The Center’s for Disease Control advise to not leave children or pets locked in a car even if the windows are open.
