DAVmeetingFebruaryTuesday night’s regular monthly meeting of the local chapter of the DAV, was concerned with the medical treatment that is delivered to our Veterans. It has recently been brought to light that all Veterans who served at Fort McClellen, Alabama, between 1935 and 1999 may have been exposed to radioactive compounds, chemical warfare agents, and airborne poly-chlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and are therefore eligible to file claims for disability compensation. These agent are known to cause a variety of adverse health effects in humans. If you, or anyone you know served at Fort McClellen, Alabama between 1935 and 1999, contact the VA, or attend the mobile claims day in April. You can visit the official website here.

Also mentioned at Tuesday’s meeting was an update on the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act of 2015. Certain territorial waters have been added for the presumption of service connection for diseases associated with exposure by veterans to certain herbicide agents while in Vietnam.

The claims agents representing the VA claims services will be coming to Elizabethtown for one day, April 14, 2016, to assist all local veterans with claims they have already filed or claims they need to file. The mobile claims van will be at the National Guard Armory from 9:00 am until.

The local DAV meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm, at 109 Hill Street, Elizabethtown, NC. All disabled veterans are invited and encouraged to attend.
