Job Title: Executive Director

Organization: BladenOnline, Inc. (A Non-Profit Corporation)

Location: Hybrid

Position Type: Part-Time

Reports To: Board of Directors

Position Summary:

The Executive Director of BladenOnline, Inc. is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational management of the organization. This position ensures that BladenOnline, Inc. fulfills its mission of promoting academic growth in journalism, delivering accurate community news, and fostering civic engagement through partnerships. The Executive Director is accountable to the Board of Directors and oversees staff, volunteers, and community collaborations.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Governance:

• Implement and uphold the mission, vision, and strategic objectives set forth by the Board of Directors.

• Serve as the public representative of BladenOnline, Inc., fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, media, community partners, and donors.

• Provide recommendations and updates to the Board regarding operations, financials, and strategic initiatives.

Operational & Program Management:

• Oversee daily operations, ensuring adherence to nonprofit regulations and best practices.

• Develop and manage programs that support journalism education, student engagement, and community reporting.

• Maintain editorial integrity and high journalistic standards across all media platforms, including BladenOnline.com, social media, and video content.


Financial & Fundraising Oversight:

• Work with the Board Treasurer to develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency.

• Identify and secure funding opportunities, including grants, sponsorships, and community donations.

• Ensure compliance with all financial reporting requirements, including those related to 501(c)(3) status.

Community Engagement & Partnerships:

• Strengthen existing partnerships with Bladen Community College, North Carolina Cooperative Extension Center, and CAB Marketing, LLC.

• Develop new partnerships that enhance BladenOnline, Inc.’s reach and impact.

• Represent the organization at community events, educational workshops, and networking opportunities.

Personnel Management:

• Supervise and support staff, interns, and volunteers, fostering a collaborative and mission-driven work environment.

• Develop and oversee policies for hiring, training, and performance evaluation.

• Encourage professional development opportunities for team members.


Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in nonprofit leadership, journalism, or a related industry.

• Strong understanding of nonprofit financial management and fundraising strategies.

• Excellent communication and public speaking skills.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a Board of Directors.

• Experience managing media platforms, including digital news websites, social media, and video content.

• Passion for community engagement, education, and local journalism.


Compensation:

Salary will be determined based on experience and approved by the Board of Directors. Benefits may include professional development support and reimbursement for work-related expenses.
