Significant news today has been announced involving the recent hog industry lawsuit trails. When the verdict came back awarding plaintiffs multi-millions of dollars in the nuisance lawsuits Smithfield made their first request for appeal in April.

Three months later Smithfield has been granted their appeal. U.S. District Court Judge Earl Britt entered an order, Friday, August 17th, allowing Smithfield to appeal the verdicts involving the hog farms of William (Billy) Kinlaw, Joey Carter and the Greenwood Properties according to court officials. However, it may be next week before the appeals actually gets entered.

The fourth hog industry lawsuit trial has been rescheduled. The next case involving the Sholar Company originally scheduled to begin after Labor Day, in September, is now scheduled to start in November.

The other Smithfield Hog Production (dba: Murphy Brown) lawsuits involving farms in Bladen (Lisbon) and Duplin Counties have also been pushed back a couple months, according to court officials.

Smithfield Hog Farm Manager, Leticia Barber, gave BladenOnline.com an exclusive interview. Barber talks about the trials’ affects on the neighbors, the amount of money the plaintiffs will receive and the great ripple effect.

We will bring you more information as soon as it becomes available. Listen to the interview now on our YouTube Channel.
