Business Insider recently released information using the median income from the US Census Bureau’s 2013 American Community Survey  to determine, ‘How much money do you need to make to be considered middle income class in North Carolina?’  Myfox 8 TV in the High Point area broke it down for North Carolina and across the nation.

According to the report, the middle class in North Carolina ranges from $30,604 to $91,812 a year.  The state’s median household income is $45,906.

Based on the study, North Carolina is at No. 41 for the highest middle class earnings, including the District of Columbia.

Maryland had the highest-earning middle class, ranging from $48,322 to $144,966 with a median household income of $72,483, according to the report.

Mississippi had the lowest-earning middle class, ranging from $25,309 to $75,926 with a median household income of $37,963.

According to a recent Pew Charitable Trusts’ Stateline blog, the middle class in every state in the country shrunk between 2000 and 2013.
